Hybrid Eclipse (Annular/Total Solar Eclipse)
A Hybrid Eclipse is a rare type of solar eclipse that shifts between a total and annular eclipse along different sections of its path. The curvature of the Earth causes some locations to see a total eclipse, while others see an annular eclipse.
Penumbral Lunar Eclipse
A Penumbral Lunar Eclipse takes place when the Moon passes through the Earth's penumbra. The Moon appears slightly darker than usual as the Sun's rays are partially obscured. The change is subtle and can be difficult to observe.
Annular Solar Eclipse
An Annular Solar Eclipse happens when the Moon covers the center of the Sun, leaving a 'ring of fire' around the edges. This occurs when the Moon is too far from Earth to completely cover the Sun (apogee) and the alignment is near perfect.
Total Solar Eclipse
A Total Solar Eclipse occurs when the Moon completely covers the Sun, as observed from Earth. Two conditions are necessary: 1) The Moon is in a New Moon phase. 2) The alignment of the Sun, Moon, and Earth must be nearly exact in a line.
Partial Lunar Eclipse
A Partial Lunar Eclipse takes place when the Earth moves between the Sun and the Moon, but they are not perfectly aligned. Only part of the Moon enters the Earth's umbra, causing only a section of it to darken.
