3D Object Scanning and Reconstruction
The process of capturing a physical object's shape and appearance to create a digital 3D model. Examples include photogrammetry and laser scanning.
Eye Tracking
A technology used to measure where the user is looking and the movement of the eyes. Examples include Tobii eye tracking used in some VR headsets.
Head-Mounted Display (HMD)
A device worn on the head with a display in front of one or both eyes. Examples include VR and MR headsets like Oculus Quest and Microsoft HoloLens.
Virtual Reality (VR)
A simulated experience that can be similar to or completely different from the real world. Examples include Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.
Haptic Feedback
Tactile feedback technology which recreates the sense of touch by applying forces, vibrations, or motions to the user. Examples include force feedback joysticks and wearable haptic suits.
Extended Reality (XR)
An umbrella term encapsulating Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), and Mixed Reality (MR). It represents the full spectrum of real and virtual combined environments. No specific products but instead refers to the broad category.
Mixed Reality (MR)
A blend of both physical and digital worlds, where physical and digital objects co-exist and interact in real-time. Examples include Microsoft HoloLens and Magic Leap.
Augmented Reality (AR)
An interactive experience where virtual objects are superimposed onto the real-world environment. Examples include Snapchat filters and Pokemon Go.
Spatial Computing
A computing paradigm that enables digital and physical objects to co-exist and interact in three dimensions. No specific products but applications include robotics, advanced interfaces, and location-aware devices.
Gesture Recognition
The ability of a system to identify and interpret human gestures as commands. Examples include Leap Motion and Kinect for Xbox.
