Carbon Cycle
Key components include carbon dioxide (CO2), organic matter, and calcium carbonate (CaCO3). It's essential for regulating Earth's climate by controlling concentrations of CO2 and providing the carbon required for life in the form of glucose through photosynthesis.
Water Cycle
The cycle involves processes like evaporation, condensation, precipitation, and infiltration. Key to life as it distributes fresh water across the globe and is involved in nutrient transport in ecosystems.
Sulfur Cycle
Comprises of elemental sulfur (S), hydrogen sulfide (H2S), sulfates (SO42-), and other sulfur compounds. It is significant for protein synthesis and is found in the amino acids methionine and cysteine.
Oxygen Cycle
Key components are molecular oxygen (O2) and carbon dioxide (CO2). It's vital for respiration in aerobic organisms and is intertwined with the carbon cycle through processes like photosynthesis and cellular respiration.
Phosphorus Cycle
Involves phosphate ions (PO43-), phosphate rocks, and the biological uptake of phosphorus by organisms. Crucial as phosphorus is a component of DNA, RNA, ATP, and cell membranes.
Nitrogen Cycle
Includes atmospheric nitrogen (N2), ammonia (NH3), nitrates (NO3-), and nitrites (NO2-). Important for the synthesis of amino acids and nucleic acids which are essential for all living organisms.
