Straight Hem
A basic hem style created by folding the edge of the fabric up on itself to the desired width, then stitching it down.
Blind Hem
A hemming technique in which the stitches are nearly invisible on the right side of the fabric.
Rolled Hem
A very narrow hem that is usually created by rolling the edge of the fabric tightly and then sewing it down.
Double Fold Hem
A common hemming technique where the fabric edge is folded twice and then stitched in place to encase the raw edge fully.
Scalloped Hem
A decorative hem featuring a series of curves, or scallops, along the fabric edge.
Lettuce Hem
A wavy hem achieved by stretching the fabric while applying a zigzag or overlock stitch to the edge.
Bias Tape Hem

Piped Hem
A hem edged with piping that can add a decorative detail as well as structure to the fabric edge.
Picot Hem
A decorative hem finish that has small, loop-like stitches along the edge of lightweight fabrics.
Faced Hem
A hem that uses a separate piece of fabric to encase the raw edge, providing a neat inside finish.
