Heat Transfer
Prints designs onto textiles by transferring pre-printed designs from paper to fabric using heat and pressure. Common for synthetic fabrics.
Block Printing
The process of printing patterns by means of engraved wooden blocks. It is one of the oldest methods and often associated with traditional textiles in Asia.
Screen Printing
A printing technique where a mesh is used to transfer ink onto a substrate, except in areas made impermeable to the ink by a blocking stencil. Commonly used for t-shirts and posters.
Digital Textile Printing
A printing method that involves the use of digital technology to print designs directly onto the fabric. It allows for high detail and custom small runs.
Direct to Garment (DTG)
A process of printing on textiles and garments using specialized inkjet technology. Ideal for intricate designs and on-demand printing.
Rotary Screen Printing
A continuous printing process that uses cylindrical screens to apply ink onto fabric. Known for high-speed production and good for large fabric quantities.
Dye Sublimation
A process using heat to transfer dye onto materials such as a plastic, card, paper, or fabric. Mostly used for polyester and high-performance wear.
Roller Printing
Involves the use of engraved copper rollers to print designs on fabric, used for high-speed and high-volume printing, notably for wallpaper and home textiles.
Batik
A method of resist dyeing which involves applying wax to the fabric in specific areas; when the fabric is dyed, the areas with wax resist the dye and remain the original color. Traditionally from Indonesia.
Hand Painting
A technique where designs are applied manually with paint brushes directly on the fabric. It allows for unique and artistic results, often found in haute couture.
