Palomar Knot
Ideal for securing a hook to a line and works well with braid. Instructions: Double the line to make a loop, pass the loop through the eyelet of the hook, tie an overhand knot with the loop, then pull both the loop and the standing line to tighten the knot around the eye.
Blood Knot
Used to connect two pieces of fishing line. Instructions: Overlap the ends of two line pieces, twist one around the other five times, then bring back the end and pass it through the loop. Repeat with the other end in the reverse direction and pull tight.
Uni Knot
Versatile knot for attaching line to a hook, or joining two lines. Instructions: Run the end of the line through the eyelet, make a loop by laying the tag end parallel to the standing line, wrap the tag end around both the loop and the standing line about 6-7 times, pull the tag end to tighten the coils, then slide the knot down to the eyelet.
Nail Knot
Attaches fishing line to a fly line or leader. Instructions: Lay the tag end of your line on top of the fly line, use a small tube or nail to hold the loops in place, then wrap 6-10 turns around both the fly line and the tag end. Remove the tube/nail, pass the end of your fishing line through these loops and pull tight.
Improved Clinch Knot
Used to secure a fishing line to a hook, lure, or swivel. Instructions: Pass the line through the eyelet, wrap it around the standing line 5-7 times, then pass the end of the line through the first loop above the eye, and then through the large loop. Pull to tighten.
Turle Knot
Suitable for tying a hook or a fly with a straight eyelet. Instructions: Thread the line through the hook eyelet and make a simple overhand knot. Pass the open loop over the hook and slide it above the eyelet. Tighten the line so that the loop clinches down onto the eyelet.
Double Uni Knot
Excellent for joining lines of different diameters or compositions. Instructions: Overlap the ends of two lines, tie a Uni Knot in one line around the other line with 6-7 wraps and tighten, then tie a Uni Knot with the other line around the first with 6-7 wraps and tighten. Pull on both standing lines to bring the knots together.
Trilene Knot
An excellent knot for attaching hooks, swivels, and lures to fishing line. Instructions: Pass the end of the line through the eye twice, make 5-6 wraps around the standing line with the tag end, then pass the tag end through the double loop at the eye, moisten and tighten down snugly.
Albright Knot
Useful for tying together two fishing lines of different thicknesses. Instructions: Make a loop in the thicker line, pass the end of the thinner line through the loop, wrap it over itself and the loop about 10 times, then bring it back through the loop next to where it came out. Tighten by pulling on both ends of the thinner line.
Loop to Loop Knot
Used to connect two loops of line or leader material. Instructions: Pass one loop through the other loop, then pass the entire fly line, leader, or lure through the first loop and pull both lines to tighten.
Surgeon's Loop
Creates a strong loop at the end of a line. Instructions: Double over the end of the line to form a loop, tie a simple overhand knot with the looped part, pass the loop through the knot again, and pull tight.
Arbor Knot
Used for tying fishing line to the spool of a reel. Instructions: Tie an overhand knot around the standing line, then tie a second overhand knot at the end of the tag line to prevent slipping. Tighten the first knot down onto the reel arbor and trim the tag end.
