Flashcards
0/10
Stop
Signals all paddlers to stop paddling. Use when you want the raft to drift or when assessing a situation.
Paddle High-Five
A celebratory gesture where paddlers lift and push their paddles' blades together. Use after successfully navigating a challenging rapid or as a morale boost.
Eddy Out
Signals the paddlers to steer the raft towards an eddy. Use to stop or rest in a calmer part of the river away from the current.
All Forward
Used to instruct paddlers to paddle forwards in unison. Use when needing to gain momentum or travel downstream.
Left Back
Directs only the paddlers on the left side to paddle backward. Use for making sharp turns or pivoting the raft.
High Side
Commands rafters to move to the high side of the raft if it tilts. Use when the raft is hitting an obstacle to prevent flipping.
All Back
Indicates that paddlers should paddle backwards. Use in situations where you need to slow down or stop.
Right Back
Instructs paddlers on the right side to paddle backwards. Use to enable quick turns or adjustments to the right.
Get Down
Tells the passengers to duck inside the raft. Use in anticipation of rough rapids or low-hanging obstacles.
Low Side
Instructs paddlers to move to the lower side of the raft. Use rarely, typically to avoid entrapment on the upstream side of an obstacle.
