Call Number
A unique identification number assigned to each item in a library which allows items to be found in their physical location.
Stacks
The shelves in a library where most of the books are stored, often spread across several floors or areas.
Due Date
The last day that borrowed library materials can be returned or renewed without incurring a late fee.
Barcode
A machine-readable representation of information that is attached to library materials to facilitate automated checkouts and returns.
Cataloging
The process of creating entries for materials in a library's catalog, including description and subject classification.
Circulation Desk
The area in a library where patrons check out, return, and renew materials, often the main point of patron-staff interaction.
Renewal
The process of extending the loan period for library materials, often possible multiple times unless another patron has requested the item.
Periodicals
Library materials that are published on a regular basis, such as journals, newspapers, magazines, and newsletters.
Hold Shelf
A designated place in a library where materials reserved by patrons are kept until picked up.
Reserves

Media Desk

Overdue Fine
A penalty charge issued by a library for items that are returned past their due date, often seen as a deterrent to late returns.
