Sumi Ink
Originating from East Asia, sumi ink is known for its use in traditional brush calligraphy. It provides a rich, matte finish, suitable for expressive writing and artwork.
Acrylic Ink
Acrylic-based inks offer bright, vivid colors and are very opaque. They can be used in both dip pens and airbrushes, but may require specific cleaning methods due to their plastic nature.
Water-based Ink
Ideal for beginners, water-based inks are easily washable and can be used for a variety of calligraphy styles but may not be as vivid or permanent as other inks.
Pigment Ink
Contains fine particles that provide rich color and excellent coverage. Suitable for professional artworks, it is waterproof and fade-resistant once dry, but can clog pens if not used properly.
Gold & Silver Inks
Metallic inks with actual metal particles, they add a shimmer effect to writing. They are thicker and may require occasional stirring, suitable for special occasion calligraphy.
Iron Gall Ink
Historically used for documents, it is acidic and etches into the paper. Offers permanence and is waterproof, but can be corrosive to metal pens and requires careful handling.
Gouache
Gouache is an opaque watercolor that can be thinned with water for use in a dip pen. It offers a wide range of colors and is excellent for blending and custom ink making.
India Ink
A waterproof, permanent ink that is lightfast and has shellac added for a protective layer. Not suitable for fountain pens but great for expert calligraphers using dip pens.
