Letterpress Printing
An old-fashioned printing process that involves printing text and images by pressing an inked, raised surface against sheets or a continuous roll of paper. Often used for fine book printing and artisanal stationery.
Foil Stamping
A specialty printing process where metallic or pigmented foil is applied to a solid surface by applying heat and pressure, creating a decorative finish. Commonly used on book covers, business cards, and wedding invitations.
Offset Lithography
A commonly used printing technique where the inked image is transferred (offset) from a plate to a rubber blanket, then to the printing surface. Typically used for mass-produced products such as books, newspapers, and packaging.
Screen Printing
A printing technique whereby a mesh is used to transfer ink onto a substrate, except in areas made impermeable to the ink by a blocking stencil. Commonly used for t-shirts and posters.
Digital Printing
A method of printing from a digital-based image directly to a variety of media. Offers great flexibility for small-run jobs and variable data printing, like personalized marketing materials.
Pad Printing
A printing method that involves transferring ink from a silicone pad onto an object, which allows for printing on uneven surfaces like those of electronics and toys.
Sublimation Printing
A digital printing method used to print full-color images onto a special transfer paper which is then heat-pressed onto the final material, causing the ink to become gas and permeate the material. Often used for fabric and promotional items.
Inkjet Printing
A type of digital printing that creates images by propelling droplets of ink onto paper and plastic substrates. Ideal for home and business use, such as documents and photos.
Thermography
This process involves adding a heat-reactive material to wet ink and then heating it to create a raised effect on the printed material. Typically used for wedding invitations, business cards, and letterheads.
Engraving
A printmaking technique that involves cutting or carving a design into a hard surface. Once the design holds ink, it can be pressed into paper. Commonly used for fine art prints and currency.
Gravure Printing
An intaglio printing process, where the image to be printed is engraved onto a cylinder. It's especially suitable for large-volume runs of high-quality images, such as magazines and stamps.
Flexography
A type of printing that uses a flexible relief plate. It's well-suited for printing on non-porous substrates such as plastic, metallic films, and cellophane. Commonly used for food packaging and labels.
