Flashcards
0/20
Bitrate
The amount of data processed in a given amount of time in a video, higher bitrates generally result in better video quality but require more storage.
HMD (Head-Mounted Display)
A display device worn on the head with a screen in front of the eyes for viewing 360-degree videos or virtual reality applications.
Equirectangular Projection
A type of mapping that unwraps the 360-degree view onto a flat rectangle, used as the standard format for editing and playback of 360 videos.
Fisheye Lens
An ultra wide-angle lens that produces a wide panoramic or hemispherical image, often used in 360-degree cameras.
Monoscopic Video
360-degree video that displays the same image to both eyes, lacking depth perception compared to stereoscopic video.
Stereoscopic Video
360-degree video that provides different perspectives for each eye, creating a sense of depth and a more realistic experience.
Frame Rate
The frequency at which consecutive images called frames appear on a display, measured in frames per second (fps), important for the smoothness of 360-degree video playback.
Post-Production
The phase of video production occurring after filming, where the footage is edited, stitched and enhanced to create the final 360-degree video.
360-Degree Camera
A camera with lenses pointing in multiple directions to capture a full spherical view of the surrounding area.
Field of View (FoV)
The extent of the observable world visible at any given moment, for 360-degree video, it's ideally spherical or close to it.
Hotspot
An interactive element within a 360-degree video that allows viewers to interact or navigate to different scenes or information.
Stitching
The process of combining multiple images from different camera lenses to create a single, seamless spherical image.
Gimbal
A pivoted support that allows the rotation of an object (such as a camera) about a single axis, used to stabilize 360-degree cameras.
Head Tracking
A feature of VR headsets that detects and responds to the movements of the user's head, changing the view in the 360-degree video accordingly.
Spatial Audio
Audio captured or designed to correspond with the viewer's perspective and movements within a 360-degree video.
Resolution
The number of pixels contained on a display screen, with higher resolutions providing a more detailed 360-degree video image.
Live Streaming
The process of broadcasting real-time, live video footage or video feed over the internet, which can include 360-degree video streams.
Overcapture
A technique where a video is shot using a 360-degree camera, and then a standard flat video is extracted from the spherical footage in post-production.
VR Headset
A head-mounted device that immerses the viewer in a virtual reality or 360-degree video environment.
Panoramic Photography
A technique of photography that captures images with an elongated field of view, commonly used as the foundation for 360-degree video.
