Importing and Organizing Footage
Footage is transferred from the camera to the editing machine and organized into bins or folders, normally following a predefined file structure to ease the access during editing.
Titles and Graphics
Creating and placing textual elements like the opening titles, closing credits, and any on-screen graphics throughout the project, ensuring they match the tone and style of the piece.
Audio Mastering
The final enhancement and preparation of the audio mix for distribution, where the sound is fine-tuned for different playback systems to ensure the highest possible audio quality.
Color Grading
Creative process following color correction where the look of the footage is stylized to convey a particular mood or aesthetic, often through the use of color palettes and filters.
Exporting Final Version
Rendering and exporting the completed video project into a suitable format for distribution, taking into consideration the needs of different platforms or media such as television, cinema, or online streaming.
Editing
The process of selecting the best takes and assembling the footage in a sequence to tell a story according to the script or director's vision, typically using non-linear editing software like Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro.
Aspect Ratio and Resolution Adjustments
Adjusting the final video's aspect ratio and resolution settings to comply with different viewing platforms and devices, ensuring the visual quality is optimized for each one.
Foley and ADR
The production of sound effects by Foley artists to enhance the realism of the audio, and recording additional dialogue in post (ADR) to improve or replace the on-set recorded dialogue.
Quality Control
Reviewing the final product to ensure that there are no technical errors such as glitches, artifacts, or unsynced audio, as well as confirming that all elements meet broadcast or distribution standards.
Sound Editing
The process of compiling and sequencing all the audio elements, such as dialog, ADR (Automated Dialog Replacement), sound effects, and ambience into the correct order and ensuring they are correctly timed with the visuals.
Color Correction
The process of adjusting and making uniform the colors and lighting of raw footage to match the visual style of the project and ensure consistency throughout. This might involve altering exposure, contrast, and color balance.
Final Delivery
The process of distributing the final version of the video to the client, broadcast networks, or online platforms, often involving specific file types and codecs requested by the recipient.
Adding Visual Effects
Integration of CGI (Computer-Generated Imagery) or other visual effects into the live-action footage, possibly involving compositing multiple layers and using software like Adobe After Effects or Nuke.
Music Scoring
The process of composing, recording, and integrating the musical score which supports the emotion and pacing of the film or video content.
Backup and Archiving
Securely storing the final version and all raw files associated with the project, using proper archival strategies to ensure long-term preservation and future access.
Render Tests
Conducting small-scale render tests to check for issues such as rendering errors, compatibility problems, and overall quality, before committing to a full-scale final render.
Voice Over Recording
Recording additional narrative dialogue that is not part of the filmed scenes, often done in a sound booth and with professional recording equipment to ensure high-quality audio.
Localization and Subtitles
Translating dialogue into different languages and creating subtitles or dubbing tracks to make the video accessible to non-native speakers and comply with international distribution requirements.
Sound Mixing
Balancing the levels of all sound tracks including dialogue, background noise, and music to ensure clarity and create a dynamic soundscape for the project, often using digital audio workstations like Pro Tools.
Dialog Normalization
The process of ensuring that the volume levels of dialogue are consistent throughout the film, accommodating the loudness standards for the intended distribution platforms.
