Flashcards

Radiator
Dissipates heat absorbed from the engine to the air to keep the engine at an optimal temperature.
Coolant
The fluid that absorbs heat from the engine and dissipates it through the radiator.
Expansion Tank
A reservoir for coolant to expand into as it heats up, preventing overflow.
Radiator Hoses
Flexible pipes that carry coolant between the engine and the radiator.
Radiator Cap
Seals the cooling system and raises the boiling point of the coolant by maintaining pressure.
Water Pump
Circulates coolant throughout the engine and the cooling system.
Belt-driven Fan Clutch
Engages the cooling fan to the engine's drive belt system, allowing the fan to operate at different speeds based on engine temperature.
Pressure Relief Valve
Prevents excessive pressure by allowing coolant to escape the system when it becomes too high.
Heater Core
Provides heat to the cabin of the vehicle by transferring warmth from the engine’s coolant into the cabin air.
Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor (ECT Sensor)
Monitors the temperature of the engine's coolant and provides data to the vehicle's computer system.
Thermostat
Regulates the flow of coolant based on the temperature of the engine.
Cooling Fan
Provides airflow through the radiator to enhance the cooling effect especially when the vehicle is stationary.
