Flashcards

Node
A point in a signal flow graph that represents a variable or signal. Nodes are where signals either originate or combine.
Branch
A directed line segment connecting two nodes, indicating the path of the signal and its direction from one node to another with a transfer function.
Forward Path
A path through the signal flow graph that leads from an input to an output node without any node being encountered more than once.
Loop
A closed path in a signal flow graph in which the starting and ending node is the same, and no node is touched more than once.
Path Gain
The product of the transfer functions of all branches in a path from one node to another in a signal flow graph.
Loop Gain
The product of the transfer functions of all branches within a loop in a signal flow graph.
Input Node
A node where the external input signal is injected into the signal flow graph. It only has outgoing branches.
Output Node
A node that represents the output signal in a signal flow graph, having at least one incoming branch and no outgoing branch to other nodes.
Mixed Node
A node that has both incoming and outgoing branches, representing intermediate variables in the signal flow graph.
Summing Point
A specific type of node where multiple incoming branches signals are algebraically summed together.
