Understory Layer
Consists of smaller, often juvenile trees, as well as shrubs; relatively low light; examples include the Philodendron and the Heliconia.
Forest Floor
Has very low light conditions; covered with leaf litter and decomposing vegetation; examples include fungi such as mushrooms and insectivorous plants like the Venus Flytrap.
Canopy Layer
Dense, continuous layer forms a roof over the two remaining layers; rich in epiphytes; examples include the Strangler Figs and Orchids.
Emergent Layer
Characterized by tall trees that reach heights of 45-55 meters; serves as a habitat for birds and insects; examples include the Kapok tree and the Brazil nut tree.
