Banner Ad
A form of advertisement which is prominently placed on a web page, usually at the top or bottom. It's a popular form of display advertising.
Earnings Per Click (EPC)
A common affiliate marketing performance metric representing the average earnings for each click to an affiliate link.
Landing Page
A standalone web page, created specifically for a marketing or advertising campaign. This is where a visitor lands after they click on a link in an email, or ads from Google, Bing, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or similar places on the web.
Affiliate Network
A group of associated companies or individuals that offers a platform for affiliate marketing activities to take place.
Conversion Rate
The percentage of visitors to a website who take a desired action. In affiliate marketing, it's often the percentage of visitors who click on an affiliate link and make a purchase.
Return on Advertising Spend (ROAS)
A marketing metric that measures the efficacy of a digital advertising campaign.
Niche Market
A specific segment of a market that is targeted by affiliate marketers. Products or services are marketed to meet the needs of that specific group.
Pay-Per-Click (PPC)
An advertising model in which advertisers pay a fee each time one of their ads is clicked.
Affiliate Manager
The person who manages an affiliate program for a merchant, recruiting affiliates, establishing payment terms, and ensuring that all tools are provided to affiliates to market the products.
Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
The practice of increasing the quantity and quality of traffic to your website through organic search engine results.
Affiliate Marketing
A marketing arrangement by which an online retailer pays a commission to an external website for traffic or sales generated from its referrals.
Click-Through Rate (CTR)
The ratio of users who click on a specific link to the number of total users who view a page, email, or advertisement.
Affiliate Link
A specific URL that contains the affiliate's ID or username. In affiliate programs, advertisers use affiliate links to record the traffic sent to the advertiser's website.
Cost Per Action (CPA)
An online advertising pricing model where the advertiser pays for a specified acquisition - for example, a sale, click, or form submit (contact request, newsletter sign up, registration etc.).
Cookie Duration
The amount of time that a cookie stays valid after someone clicks on an affiliate link. If the visitor purchases something within this timeframe, the affiliate will still get the commission.
