A lane within the DAW where audio or MIDI data is recorded, edited, and mixed.
Mixer
The section of a DAW that allows you to balance the volume, pan, and apply effects to the individual tracks.
Automation
The process of recording the movement of controls in the DAW, such as faders, to alter parameters dynamically over time.
VST/AU Plugin
Software that can be loaded within a DAW to add new instruments or effects.
MIDI
A protocol that allows digital music instruments, computers and other related devices to communicate.
Sampling
The technique of recording a sound to be reused in a musical context within a DAW, either as a one-shot or as part of a sampler instrument.
Quantization
The process of aligning notes to a grid, which corrects timing to the nearest specified rhythmic value.
EQ
Short for equalization, it's used to alter the frequency balance of audio signals within the DAW.
Latency
The time delay between when an audio signal is input into the DAW and when it is heard from the output.
DAW Transport
The control section in a DAW that includes play, stop, record, fast forward, rewind, and loop functions.
Bounce/Export
The process of rendering your final audio mix to a single stereo file or separate stems within a DAW.
Non-destructive Editing
An editing method in a DAW where the original audio data remains unchanged despite the edits and adjustments made to it.
