Beaker
A beaker is a simple container for stirring, mixing and heating liquids commonly used in many laboratories.
Erlenmeyer Flask
Erlenmeyer flasks are used for pouring solutions and may be closed with a stopper in order to store samples. The tapered shape also allows for easy mixing by swirling.
Graduated Cylinder
Graduated cylinders are used to measure the volume of liquids. They provide more accurate measurements than beakers or flasks.
Burette
A burette dispenses known volumes of a liquid reagent very precisely and is commonly used in titrations to measure reactant amounts.
Pipette
Pipettes are used to transport a measured volume of liquid. They are more accurate than beakers and graduated cylinders.
Test Tube
A test tube is a common piece of lab glassware that holds small amounts of substances, which are often heated with a Bunsen burner.
Volumetric Flask
Volumetric flasks are used to prepare solutions of precise volumes. They are calibrated to contain a precise volume at a particular temperature.
Bunsen Burner
A Bunsen burner is a common piece of laboratory equipment that produces a single open gas flame. It's used for heating, sterilization, and combustion.
Fume Hood
Fume hoods are used to ventilate noxious or harmful vapors away from laboratory personnel and to provide a safe working environment.
Centrifuge
Centrifuges are used to separate substances dense from less dense substances or liquids from solids, in a suspension by spinning a sample at high speed.
Magnetic Stirrer
A magnetic stirrer uses a rotating magnetic field to stir fluids without the need for a stirring stick, ensuring the mixture is homogeneous.
pH Meter
pH meters measure the hydrogen-ion activity in water-based solutions, indicating its acidity or alkalinity expressed as pH.
Hot Plate
A hot plate is an electronically heated plate used for heating solutions and mixtures in the laboratory.
Refractometer
Refractometers measure the extent to which light changes direction, i.e., refracts, when passing through a liquid sample, indicating the sample's purity or concentration.
Autoclave
An autoclave sterilizes equipment and supplies using high-pressure saturated steam by killing bacteria, viruses, fungi, and spores.
Laboratory Incubator
Laboratory incubators provide controlled, contaminant-free environments for safe, reliable work with cell and tissue cultures by regulating conditions such as temperature, humidity, and CO2.
Spectrophotometer
Spectrophotometers measure the amount of light absorbed by a sample material. They are used to determine the concentration of a known solute in a solution based on light absorption.
Microscope
Microscopes are instruments used to see objects that are too small for the naked eye. They're key for examining the micro-structures of substances and cells.
Titrator
Titrators are used for automated titration. They allow for the determination of a substance's concentration in a solution by controlled addition of a reagent of known concentration.
Balance
A balance is used for measuring the mass of an object or substance in a laboratory setting to a high degree of precision.
Rotary Evaporator
Rotary evaporators are used to remove solvents from samples by evaporation. They gently and efficiently evaporate solvents from dense and complex mixtures.
Desiccator
Desiccators are sealed containers used to keep moisture-sensitive products dry. They often contain desiccants like silica gel.
Chromatography Column
Chromatography columns are used in column chromatography, a technique for separating chemical compounds by passing a mixture dissolved in a mobile phase through a stationary phase.
Analytical Funnel
Analytical funnels are used to transfer liquids or fine-grained materials into containers with small openings, avoiding spillage and waste.
Laboratory Jack
Laboratory jacks are height-adjustable platforms used to lift and support equipment such as flasks, water baths, or stirrers to a desired height.
Cryostat
Cryostats are used to maintain low cryogenic temperatures of samples or devices that must be studied at very low temperatures.
Distillation Apparatus
Distillation apparatus are used for purifying liquids through distillation, which involves heating a liquid to create vapor and then cooling the vapor to create a purified liquid.
Flocculator
Flocculators are used to mix water samples with chemicals that cause the dissolved particles to coagulate into larger particles that can then be removed.
Oil Bath
Oil baths are used to provide even heating and temperature stability for substances that need to be heated at controlled temperatures.
