Resistor
A device that opposes the flow of electrical current.
Capacitor
A device used to store an electric charge, consisting of one or more pairs of conductors separated by an insulator.
Inductor
A coil of wire that creates a magnetic field when current flows through it and opposes changes in the current.
Diode
A device that allows current to flow in only one direction.
LED
Light Emitting Diode, a semiconductor device that emits light when current flows through it.
Transistor (NPN)
A semiconductor device used to amplify or switch electronic signals and electrical power.
Transistor (PNP)
Similar to NPN but with opposite semiconductor type, allowing current to flow when low base current is applied.
Operational Amplifier (Op-Amp)
High-gain voltage amplifier with a differential input and usually a single-ended output.
Transformer
A device that transfers electrical energy between two or more circuits through electromagnetic induction.
Potentiometer
A three-terminal resistor with a sliding or rotating contact that forms an adjustable voltage divider.
Fuse
A safety device that stops the flow of current when the current exceeds a certain level.
Integrated Circuit (IC)
A set of electronic circuits on one small flat piece (or 'chip') of semiconductor material.
Switch (SPST)
Single Pole Single Throw switch, controls the connection of a circuit to one path.
Voltage Source
A two-terminal device that maintains a fixed voltage across its terminals.
Current Source
A two-terminal electronic device that delivers or absorbs an electric current which is independent of the voltage across it.
Ground
A reference point in an electrical circuit from which voltages are measured, a common return path for current, or a direct physical connection to the Earth.
Electrolytic Capacitor
A type of capacitor with a larger capacitance per unit volume than other types, which uses an electrolyte as one of its plates to achieve a larger capacitance.
Crystal Oscillator
An electronic oscillator circuit that uses the mechanical resonance of a vibrating crystal to create an electrical signal with a precise frequency.
Variable Resistor (Rheostat)
A resistor whose resistance can be adjusted manually.
Thermistor
A type of resistor whose resistance is dependent on temperature, more so than in standard resistors.
