Step-down Transformer
Decreases the voltage from primary to secondary, commonly used in distribution networks to supply residential and commercial loads.
Autotransformer
A type of transformer with only one winding, where a portion of the winding is common to both high-voltage and low-voltage sides; more economical and compact than dual-winding transformers.
Instrument Transformer
Specialized transformer used in power systems for measuring voltage (potential transformer) or current (current transformer), ensuring safety and standardization in reading instruments.
Step-up Transformer
Increases the voltage from primary to secondary, often used in power transmission systems to reduce transmission losses over long distances.
Power Transformer
Used to step-up or step-down voltage in power transmission networks; has high efficiency and is designed for continuous operation at rated load.
Isolation Transformer
Designed to decouple two circuits, allowing AC power to be taken from one device and fed into another without electrically connecting the two circuits; often used to protect against electric shocks.
Current Transformer
Used for measuring large currents, often used in metering and protective relays in the electrical power industry by providing a secondary current that is accurately proportional to the current flowing in its primary.
Distribution Transformer
Used to provide final voltage transformation in the electric power distribution system, stepping down the voltage used in the distribution lines to the level used by the customer.
Three-phase Transformer
Used in three-phase power systems and can be constructed either by connecting together three single-phase transformers or by using a single three-phase transformer; provides balanced power for large motors and loads.
Toroidal Transformer
A transformer with a toroidal (ring or donut-shaped) core, known for its efficiency and lower electromagnetic interference; commonly used in medical equipment and high-quality audio amplifiers.
