Linear Voltage Regulator
A linear voltage regulator maintains a constant output voltage despite changes in the input voltage or load conditions. It dissipates excess power as heat.
Series Pass Regulator
A type of linear regulator that uses a variable element, like a transistor, connected in series with the load to maintain a constant output voltage.
Switching Voltage Regulator
A switching regulator converts the input voltage to a higher or lower level using an inductor, transformer, or capacitor, with higher efficiency than linear regulators.
SCR Voltage Regulator
A regulator using Silicon Controlled Rectifiers (SCRs) to chop the AC input waveform and thereby control the output voltage to a load.
Feedback Control
A technique used in regulators where a portion of the output is fed back to the control device to make adjustments ensuring stable output voltage.
Voltage Divider
A resistive circuit that outputs a fraction of the input voltage, used for setting reference voltages in regulators.
Magnetic Regulator
An electromagnetic device that regulates voltage by using the saturation of a magnetic core to limit AC voltage.
Zener Diode Voltage Regulator
A simple voltage regulator using a Zener diode’s reverse breakdown voltage characteristic to maintain a steady output voltage.
Voltage Reference
A device or circuit that provides a constant voltage output used as a reference for other components or circuits to ensure accurate and stable operation.
Shunt Regulator
A type of voltage regulator that connects in parallel with the load and shunts current to ground to regulate the output voltage.
