Mass Production System
Characteristics: High volume, low variety, dedicated equipment for production, economies of scale. Examples: Automobile assembly lines, electronic consumer goods manufacturing.
Continuous Production System
Characteristics: Continual production process, extremely high volumes, highly automated, products are undifferentiated. Examples: Oil refineries, chemical plants.
Job Shop Manufacturing
Characteristics: High variety of products, low production volume, custom-made products. Examples: Tool and die shops, customized machinery manufacturers.
Batch Production System
Characteristics: Production in groups or batches, medium variety and volume, not as flexible as job shops but more efficient. Examples: Bakeries, clothing manufacturers.
Flexible Manufacturing System (FMS)
Characteristics: Adaptable equipment, moderate to high variety, automation and computer control. Examples: Modern machining centers, automotive component production.
