Fixed Position Layout

Flexible Manufacturing System (FMS)
Advantages: High flexibility for product changes, improved machine utilization, reduced labor force requirement. Disadvantages: High initial investment, complex operations and maintenance, could be over-engineered for simpler tasks.
Mixed-Model Layout
Advantages: Can handle varied customer demands, remains productive with diverse product lines, supports customization. Disadvantages: Complex scheduling and balancing, inventory management challenge, requires highly skilled workers.
Process-Oriented Layout
Advantages: Flexible for different product types, Utilizes general-purpose equipment. Disadvantages: High material handling cost, complex scheduling needed, can result in increased WIP inventory.
Product-Oriented Layout
Advantages: High production efficiency, easy supervision, low material handling cost. Disadvantages: Low flexibility for product mix changes, high cost of downtime, significant investment in specialized equipment.
Cellular Layout
Advantages: Reduces setup time, enhanced product quality, better human relations. Disadvantages: Requires careful planning, not suitable for large product ranges, can have redundant equipment.
