Fishbone Diagram
Purpose: To identify the root causes of a problem or defect in a process. Application Method: Create a diagram that resembles a fishbone and brainstorm potential causes, categorizing them into different branches such as methods, machinery, materials, etc.
Flow Chart
Purpose: To visualize the steps of a process, uncover inefficiencies, and facilitate problem-solving. Application Method: Use standard symbols to map out the steps of a process and analyze for potential improvements.
Check Sheet
Purpose: To collect real-time quantitative or qualitative data in an organized manner. Application Method: Design a form to easily record and tally occurrences of events or defects as they happen.
Scatter Diagram
Purpose: To identify potential relationships between two variables. Application Method: Plot pairs of numerical data on an X-Y graph to look for patterns or correlations.
Control Chart
Purpose: To monitor process variation and stability over time. Application Method: Plot data points in time order on a chart with a central line (mean), and upper and lower control limits to determine if a process is in control.
Pareto Chart
Purpose: To prioritize problems based on their significance. Application Method: Create a bar chart ordered by frequency of occurrence to identify and focus on problems that have the greatest impact, often following the 80/20 rule.
Histogram
Purpose: To visualize the distribution of data and see if it forms a bell-shaped curve. Application Method: Divide data into intervals and plot the frequency of data points that fall into each interval as a bar graph.
