Flashcards
0/6
Cylinder
The cylinder houses the piston and provides a space where combustion occurs, converting heat into mechanical work.
Valve
Valves regulate the intake of fuel/air mixture into the cylinder and the exit of exhaust gases, ensuring correct engine timing and operation.
Piston
The piston moves within the cylinder under gas pressure during the combustion cycle, transferring energy from expanding gases to the crankshaft.
Crankshaft
The crankshaft converts the linear motion of the piston into rotational motion, which powers the vehicle or machinery.
Connecting Rod
The connecting rod attaches the piston to the crankshaft, enabling the transfer of motion and force between the two.
Camshaft
The camshaft opens and closes the valves in synchronized timing with the engine's cycle, through the use of lobes that push against valve lifters.
