Flashcards

Regenerative Heat Exchanger
Configuration: Utilizes a matrix of materials that temporarily store heat. Fluid passes alternately through the matrix to be heated or cooled. Typical applications: Large scale power generation, industrial processes requiring heat recovery.
Adiabatic Wheel Heat Exchanger
Configuration: Rotating wheel with a large surface area that transfers heat between two fluids. One fluid flows through the wheel and the other fluid passes, often air, flows across perpendicular to the wheel. Typical applications: HVAC systems, industrial drying.
Plate Heat Exchanger
Configuration: Comprises a series of thin plates with large surface areas, stacked and pressed together. Fluids flow through alternating plates. Typical applications: Food and beverage industries, district heating, swimming pools.
Shell and Tube Heat Exchanger
Configuration: Series of tubes within a larger cylindrical shell where one fluid flows inside the tubes and the other fluid flows between the tubes and the shell. Typical applications: Petrochemical industries, oil refineries, natural gas processing.
Finned Tube Heat Exchanger
Configuration: Tubes with fins that increase the external surface area for better heat transfer. Fluid flows through the tubes, and another fluid flows outside the finned tubes. Typical applications: Air conditioning systems, car radiators, power plants.
