Flashcards
0/20
Hand Grip Strength
Purpose: To measure the maximum isometric strength of the hand and forearm muscles. It can indicate overall upper body strength and is essential for sports requiring strong grip.
Pro Agility Shuttle (5-10-5)
Purpose: To test the athlete's ability to change directions at speed. It measures agility, including acceleration, deceleration, and neuromuscular control.
Shoulder Mobility Test
Purpose: To assess bilateral shoulder range of motion, combining internal rotation with adduction and external rotation with abduction. It indicates shoulder flexibility, scapular mobility, and thoracic spine extension.
Illinois Agility Test
Purpose: To assess the athlete’s speed, agility, and change-of-direction capabilities. It's indicative of the athlete's ability to perform complex movements with speed and precision.
In-Line Lunge
Purpose: To assess lower body strength, flexibility, balance, and control. It also evaluates the stability and mobility of the ankles, knees, and hips. The test highlights asymmetries in movement that can indicate risk of injury.
Active Straight Leg Raise
Purpose: To evaluate active hamstring and gastrocnemius flexibility while maintaining a stable pelvis. This test reveals asymmetries in hip flexion range of motion and potential issues in the pelvic girdle.
Standing Long Jump
Purpose: To assess lower body strength and power. It can indicate an athlete's explosive power and also reveal any significant left-to-right imbalances in leg strength.
Vertical Jump
Purpose: To measure lower body power output, specifically strength and explosive capabilities. It indicates the athlete's ability to produce power vertically and can be used for talent identification.
300-Yard Shuttle Run
Purpose: To evaluate anaerobic capacity, which is essential for sports that require repetitive bursts of high-intensity activity. It also identifies the athlete's ability to recover during short rest periods.
T-Test
Purpose: To evaluate an athlete’s agility, including speed, lateral movement, and coordination. It helps determine an athlete's ability to change direction effectively.
Deep Squat
Purpose: To assess bilateral, symmetrical, and functional mobility of the hips, knees, and ankles. The test can reveal compensatory movement patterns, muscle imbalances and joint limitations.
Single-Leg Squat
Purpose: To evaluate lower extremity strength, balance, and coordination. It specifically looks for differences between the left and right sides which could indicate unilateral weaknesses or imbalances.
Overhead Squat Assessment
Purpose: To assess dynamic flexibility, core strength, balance, and overall neuromuscular control. It reveals potential compensations, imbalances, and weaknesses in the athlete's movement pattern.
Hurdle Step Test
Purpose: To examine stepping and stride mechanics, which are important for identifying bilateral functional mobility and stability of the hips, knees, and ankles. It highlights muscle imbalances and mobility issues.
Seated Medicine Ball Throw
Purpose: To assess upper body explosive power. This test is useful in revealing the athlete's ability to generate force from the upper body when the lower body is not able to contribute.
Y Balance Test
Purpose: To measure an athlete’s risk for injury by testing balance and reaching ability on one leg in multiple directions. It can shed light on proprioception, strength, and coordination.
Trunk Stability Push-Up
Purpose: To evaluate trunk stability in the sagittal plane while a symmetrical upper-extremity motion is performed. It reveals core strength and the ability to stabilize the spine.
Rotary Stability Test
Purpose: To examine multi-planar trunk stability during combined upper and lower extremity motion. It helps in identifying deficits in neuromuscular coordination and core stability.
10-Yard Sprint
Purpose: To assess acceleration and sprinting speed over a short distance. It can reveal an athlete's quickness and efficiency in start-up speed.
Balance Error Scoring System (BESS)
Purpose: To assess static postural stability and balance by counting the number of errors an athlete makes while holding different positions. It is used to identify balance issues that might affect performance or indicate a risk for injury.
