Twin Rope
Similar to half ropes, but always used in pairs and clipped together through protection. Ideal for icy or mixed routes.
Nut (climbing)
A metal wedge that is placed into constrictions in the rock. Ideal for protecting trad climbs and leaving no trace.
Dynamic Rope
A rope that can stretch under load, absorbing the energy of a fall. Best used for lead climbing and top-roping.
Nylon Rope
A strong, affordable rope that's resistant to abrasion but not as strong or elastic as other climbing-specific ropes. Best used for utility purposes.
Static Rope
A rope with minimal stretch, ideal for rappelling, caving, and rescue operations.
Camming Device
A piece of climbing protection that expands in cracks and crevices. Best for trad climbing in crack systems.
Climbing Harness
Not a rope or anchor, but essential for safety while climbing, allowing the climber to tie into the rope and safely fall.
Figure-eight Knot
A strong and simple stopper knot often used in climbing to prevent the end of the rope from slipping out of the belay device.
Half Rope
Used in pairs, it offers redundancy and reduces rope drag on wandering routes. Best for trad climbing and mountaineering.
Climbing Webbing
Flat or tubular strap used in making slings and quickdraws. Best for anchors and extending protection.
