Principles of Training

Flashcards
0/5
Progressive Overload
To improve fitness, the training load must exceed the normal demands placed on the body. This can be increased progressively by manipulating variables like intensity, duration, and frequency.
Reversibility
The principle that fitness improvements are lost when demands on the body are lowered. It's often summarized as 'use it or lose it.'
Individual Differences
Training and conditioning should be adjusted based on each individual's unique characteristics and responses to training, such as age, gender, fitness level, and genetic predispositions.
Specificity
Training should be relevant and appropriate to the sport for which the individual is training. Exercises should reflect the specific physiological and biomechanical demands of the sport.
Variety
Incorporating a range of exercises and activities into a training program can prevent boredom and overuse injuries. It challenges the body in different ways and can improve overall fitness and skill.
