Rorschach Inkblot Test
Purpose: To uncover underlying thought disorders and examine personality structure. Method: The individual is shown a series of inkblots and asked to describe what they see in each one.
Thematic Apperception Test (TAT)
Purpose: To explore a person's patterns of thought, attitudes, observational capacity, and emotional responses to ambiguous test materials. Method: Individuals are asked to tell a story about each of a series of ambiguous pictures of people.
Sentence Completion Test
Purpose: To assess aspects of a person's personality, including motivations, concerns, and conflicts. Method: An individual is given incomplete sentences and is asked to complete them in a way that is meaningful to them.
House-Tree-Person (HTP) Test
Purpose: To assess an individual's personality and level of emotional functioning. Method: The person is asked to draw a house, a tree, and a person, and these drawings are used to infer psychological insights.
Draw-A-Person Test
Purpose: To evaluate children’s cognitive development, but often used to assess emotional functioning as well. Method: Children are asked to draw a person, and the drawing is then analyzed to gain insight into their social skills and level of emotional development.
