Linguistic Intelligence
This type of intelligence involves the ability to think in words and to use language to express and appreciate complex meanings. Characteristics include good verbal memory, ability to understand grammar and language structure, and the talent for using language as a means to express oneself.
Logical-Mathematical Intelligence
This form of intelligence entails the capacity to analyze problems logically, carry out mathematical operations, and investigate issues scientifically. Characteristics include high levels of abstract thinking and hypothesis testing, along with a knack for problem-solving and mathematical calculations.
Spatial Intelligence
Spatial intelligence refers to the ability to think in three dimensions. Core capacities include mental imagery, spatial reasoning, image manipulation, and an active imagination. People with high spatial intelligence are often good at solving puzzles and often use spatial thinking in terms of pictures rather than words.
Bodily-Kinesthetic Intelligence
People with bodily-kinesthetic intelligence are said to have good hand-eye coordination and dexterity. They tend to have a high capacity for physical tasks, manipulating objects, and using their body in skilled ways. This intelligence is common among athletes, dancers, surgeons, and craftspeople.
Musical Intelligence
Individuals with musical intelligence have a sensitivity to rhythm, melody, and tone. This type of intelligence enables individuals to recognize, create, reproduce, and reflect on music, as manifested by composers, conductors, musicians, vocalists, and sensitive listeners.
Interpersonal Intelligence
This intelligence involves the ability to understand and interact effectively with others. It includes effective verbal and non-verbal communication, the ability to note distinctions among others, sensitivity to the moods and temperaments of others, and the ability to entertain multiple perspectives.
Intrapersonal Intelligence
Intrapersonal intelligence refers to the ability to understand oneself and one's thoughts and feelings, and to use such knowledge in planning and directing one's life. It involves not only an appreciation of the self but also of the human condition.
Naturalistic Intelligence
Naturalistic intelligence is the ability to identify, categorize, and draw upon certain features of the environment. It's a sensitivity to and appreciation for nature and the natural world. Farmers, botanists, environmentalists, and landscapers may all have well-developed naturalistic intelligence.
