Mesopelagic Zone
Characteristics: Limited light, known as the twilight zone, decreasing temperature with depth. Depth range: 200 - 1,000 meters.
Abyssopelagic Zone
Characteristics: Very cold, no light, sparse life, certain areas have flat plains. Depth range: 4,000 - 6,000 meters.
Hadalpelagic Zone
Characteristics: Found in the oceanic trenches, immense pressure, very few creatures can survive, water is near freezing. Depth range: 6,000 meters to the ocean floor (>10,000 meters at the deepest trenches).
Epipelagic Zone
Characteristics: Well-lit uppermost layer, supports most marine life, photosynthesis occurs here. Depth range: 0 - 200 meters.
Bathypelagic Zone
Characteristics: No sunlight, the midnight zone, water pressure is extremely high, bioluminescent organisms. Depth range: 1,000 - 4,000 meters.
