Flashcards
0/10
Low-Fire
Temperature range: 1000°C - 1200°C (1832°F - 2192°F). Typical outcome: Brightly colored, smooth glazed finish, often used for earthenware.
Decal Firing
Temperature range: 760°C - 810°C (1400°F - 1490°F). Typical outcome: Permanent transfer of decal images onto glazed ceramic surfaces.
Overglaze Firing
Temperature range: 750°C - 850°C (1382°F - 1562°F). Typical outcome: Bright, glossy surfaces with decorative overglaze applications such as lusters, gold, or decals.
Raku Firing
Temperature range: Around 1000°C (1832°F). Typical outcome: Variable textures and colors with distinctive crackled glaze or metallic effects.
Bisque Firing
Temperature range: 1000°C - 1150°C (1832°F - 2102°F). Typical outcome: Bisqueware, which is ready for glazing.
High-Fire
Temperature range: 1280°C - 1400°C (2336°F - 2552°F). Typical outcome: Durable, vitrified stoneware and porcelain, ideal for structural and functional ware.
Salt Firing
Temperature range: 1280°C - 1320°C (2336°F - 2408°F). Typical outcome: Unique textured glaze surface from salt introduced during firing.
Wood Firing
Temperature range: Varies, often can be in the high-fire range. Typical outcome: Pieces with unique patterns and ash deposits from wood combustion.
Lustre Firing
Temperature range: 600°C - 700°C (1112°F - 1292°F). Typical outcome: Metallic effects and iridescent finishes on glazed ceramics.
Mid-Fire
Temperature range: 1200°C - 1280°C (2192°F - 2336°F). Typical outcome: Stoneware and some porcelains that are vitrified and durable.
