Granulate Pressing
Granulate pressing involves pressing granulated or powdery clay into a mold under high pressure. The technique is used for making tiles and technical ceramics with high precision and complexity.
Hand-Building
Hand-building is a traditional pottery making technique that involves creating forms without a pottery wheel, using hands, fingers, and simple tools. Suitable for making unique sculptures, tiles, and tableware.
RAM Pressing
RAM pressing, or RAM forming, involves using hydraulic pressure to press clay into a mold. Suitable for creating large, complex forms such as sinks and architectural elements.
Slip Casting
Slip casting is a technique in which liquid clay (slip) is poured into a plaster mold. Once set, the firm clay shape is removed and fired. This method is suitable for complex shapes and mass production of identical pieces.
Extruding
Extruding is done by forcing clay through a shaped die with an extruder tool. It is used to create long, even shapes like tubes and can be useful for handles and decorative elements.
Wheel-Throwing
Wheel-throwing involves shaping the clay on a potter's wheel as it spins. It's typically used for producing symmetrical vessels such as pots, bowls, and vases.
Slab Building
Slab building involves rolling out clay into flat sheets (slabs) and then joining them together to form objects. It's suitable for making boxes, lamps, and other geometrically shaped items.
Pinching
Pinching is one of the most basic pottery techniques where the clay is shaped by pressing and pinching with the fingers. It is best for making small pots and vessels with organic, delicate forms.
Jiggering
Jiggering is a process where a rotating mold shapes the exterior of a plate or flatware item, while a stationary tool shapes the interior. Most suitable for making large quantities of plates and bowls.
Coiling
Coiling is a method of creating pottery by rolling out coils of clay and stacking them to build up the walls of a vessel. It works well for making large pots and pieces with irregular shapes.
