Stony-Iron Meteorites
Characteristics: Mixture of silicate minerals and iron-nickel alloys. Examples: Pallasites, Mesosiderites.
Pallasites
Characteristics: Stony-iron meteorites made mostly of olivine set in a matrix of iron-nickel metal. Examples: Imilac, Esquel, Fukang.
Enstatite Chondrites
Characteristics: Composed largely of the mineral enstatite, extremely reduced forms of certain metals. Examples: EH (high iron), EL (low iron) enstatite chondrites.
Iron Meteorites
Characteristics: Composed primarily of iron-nickel alloy. Examples: Hexahedrites, Octahedrites.
Chondrites
Characteristics: Non-metallic, contain chondrules. Examples: LL, L, and H ordinary chondrites.
Achondrites
Characteristics: Lack chondrules, often from differentiated bodies. Examples: Eucrites, Diogenites, and Howardites.
Martian Meteorites
Characteristics: Originates from Mars, often contains trapped gases that match the Martian atmosphere. Examples: Shergottites, Nakhlites, Chassignites.
Lunar Meteorites
Characteristics: Originates from the Moon, similar in composition to Moon rocks collected during Apollo missions. Examples: Anorthosite breccias, mare basalts.
HED Meteorites
Characteristics: Hypothesized to have originated from asteroid 4 Vesta. Examples: Howardites, Eucrites, Diogenites.
Carbonaceous Chondrites
Characteristics: Contains high amounts of water and organic compounds. Examples: CI, CM, CR meteorites.
