IaaS
Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) refers to the online services that provide high-level APIs used to dereference various low-level details of underlying network infrastructure like physical computing resources, location, data partitioning, scaling, security, backup etc. Examples include AWS EC2, Microsoft Azure, and Google Compute Engine.
SaaS
Software as a Service (SaaS) is a software licensing and delivery model in which software is licensed on a subscription basis and is centrally hosted. Examples include Google Workspace, Salesforce, and Microsoft Office 365.
Monitoring as a Service (MaaS)
Monitoring as a Service is a framework that facilitates the deployment of monitoring functionalities for both cloud and on-premise systems. Examples include Datadog, New Relic, and LogicMonitor.
Backend as a Service (BaaS)
Backend as a Service is a model for providing web developers with a way to link their applications to backend cloud storage and APIs exposed by back end applications while also providing features such as user management, push notifications, and integration with social networking services. Examples include Firebase, Parse, and AWS Amplify.
Management as a Service (MaaS)
Management as a Service is a framework that facilitates the management of IT systems via cloud technology. Examples include Microsoft Operations Management Suite and VMware's vRealize Operations.
Integration Platform as a Service (iPaaS)
Integration Platform as a Service is a suite of cloud services enabling development, execution, and governance of integration flows, connecting any combination of on premises and cloud-based processes, services, applications, and data within individual or across multiple organizations. Examples include MuleSoft Anypoint Platform, Dell Boomi, and Zapier.
Security as a Service (SECaaS)
Security as a Service involves applications such as anti-virus software that are delivered over the internet to provide protection to a customer's systems. Examples include McAfee, Symantec, and Trend Micro.
Insurance as a Service (IaaS)
Insurance as a Service relies on large cloud service platforms to deliver models that help insurance companies operate and manage their backend processes. This may not be a common cloud service model. Examples are more hypothetical and vary as it is an emerging concept.
Database as a Service (DBaaS)
Database as a Service provides a way to use cloud services to provide and manage databases, without the need for physical hardware or database management expertise. Examples include Amazon RDS, Google Cloud SQL, and Microsoft Azure SQL Database.
Desktop as a Service (DaaS)
Desktop as a Service delivers virtualized desktops hosted on a remote server based on cloud computing. Examples include Amazon WorkSpaces, VMware Horizon Cloud, and Citrix Managed Desktops.
Function as a Service (FaaS)
Function as a Service is a category of cloud computing services that provides a platform allowing customers to execute code in response to events without the complexity of building and maintaining the infrastructure. Examples include AWS Lambda, Google Cloud Functions, and Azure Functions.
Communication as a Service (CaaS)
Communication as a Service offers enterprise communications solutions—like Voice over IP (VoIP), instant messaging, and video conferencing—as a managed solution. Examples include Skype for Business, Google Meet, and Zoom.
PaaS
Platform as a Service (PaaS) provides a platform allowing customers to develop, run, and manage applications without the complexity of building and maintaining the infrastructure typically associated with developing and launching an app. Examples include Heroku, Google App Engine, and Microsoft Azure App Services.
Network as a Service (NaaS)
Network as a Service delivers networking capabilities as a cloud service that might otherwise require on-premises hardware. Examples include Cisco Meraki, VMWare NSX, and Amazon VPC.
Storage as a Service (STaaS)
Storage as a Service provides a storage architecture model for data storage on the cloud which is accessible through a service provider. Examples include Dropbox, Google Drive, and Amazon S3.
