MIG Welding
Metal Inert Gas welding - A common high deposition rate welding process where an electric arc forms between a consumable wire electrode and the workpiece metals.
TIG Welding
Tungsten Inert Gas welding - Precision welding technique that uses a non-consumable tungsten electrode to produce the weld.
Stick Welding
Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) - Uses a consumable electrode coated in flux to lay the weld.
Flux-Cored Arc Welding
Similar to MIG welding, uses a tubular wire filled with flux and can be used with or without shielding gas.
Submerged Arc Welding
Uses a consumable electrode and a granular flux that covers the weld, providing a shield from the atmosphere.
Laser Beam Welding
Uses a laser to join pieces of metal or thermoplastics, providing high precision and speed.
Electron Beam Welding
Uses a focused beam of electrons to weld materials, allowing for strong welds in thick or thin sections.
Friction Stir Welding
A solid-state joining technique that uses a non-consumable tool to generate heat through friction, joining materials without melting them.
Gas Welding
Involves using a gas flame over the workpiece to melt metals at the join, using a filler rod.
Resistance Welding
A group of welding processes in which coalescence is produced by the heat obtained from the resistance of the work to the flow of electric current.
Plasma Arc Welding
Similar to TIG welding but uses a plasma arc to create a more focused heating area, which can make deeper welds.
Oxy-fuel Welding
A process that uses fuel gases and oxygen to weld and cut metals, suitable for repairing and fabrication.
