Wound Healing Stages in Dermatology
5
Flashcards
0/5
Hemostasis
Vasoconstriction to reduce blood loss, platelet aggregation to form a clot, and cytokine release for healing initiation.
Inflammatory Phase
Characterized by redness and swelling, neutrophil invasion to prevent infection, and macrophages to clean debris.
Maturation Phase
Collagen fibers reorganize, tissue remodels and strengthens, and eventually results in scar tissue formation with decreased vascularity.
Proliferative Phase
Fibroblast proliferation, collagen deposition, granulation tissue formation, and epithelialization occur to rebuild the dermis and epidermis.
Epithelialization
Occurs throughout the healing process especially during the proliferative phase; keratinocytes migrate across the wound bed to restore the epidermis.
