Pitch Bend Wheel
A performance control that allows the player to manually bend the pitch of the note being played.
Aftertouch
Allows expressive control by sensing the pressure applied by the player after initial key depression, modulating various parameters.
Noise Generator
Creates white, pink, or other types of noise, useful for percussive sounds, sweeps, and adding texture.
Oscillator
Generates raw sound waves; shapes the timbre by producing different waveform types (sine, sawtooth, square, triangle, etc.).
VCA (Voltage Controlled Amplifier)
Controls the overall volume of the sound and can be modulated to create dynamics.
Sub-Oscillator
An additional oscillator tuned one or more octaves below the main oscillators, enriching the low-end.
Sample and Hold
Randomly changes a parameter's value in steps, helpful for creating unpredictable textures or rhythmic patterns.
Portamento/Glide
Creates a smooth pitch transition between notes when activated, adjustable in speed.
Polyphony
Determines how many notes a synthesizer can play at once. Monophonic means one note, while polyphonic means multiple.
Ring Modulator
Mixes two input signals in a way that creates new, often metallic, atonal, and complex sounds.
FM (Frequency Modulation) Synthesis
Modulates the frequency of one waveform (carrier) with another waveform (modulator) to create complex sounds and overtones.
Arpeggiator
Automatically sequences notes in a chord in a rhythmic pattern, often adjustable in direction, range, and pattern.
Supersaw
A waveform made of several slightly detuned sawtooth waves, known for its lush, bright, and wide sound typical in EDM.
LFO (Low Frequency Oscillator)
Modulates various parameters at a low frequency, creating vibrato, tremolo, or other cyclic effects.
Modulation Matrix
Allows routing of modulation sources to various destinations, expanding the sound design possibilities.
Velocity Sensitivity
Adjusts the sound dynamics or other parameters based on the velocity, or how quickly the keys are pressed.
PWM (Pulse Width Modulation)
Varies the duty cycle of a square wave, changing the timbre by affecting the pulse's width.
Filter
Alters the timbral character of the sound by removing certain frequencies; Low-pass, high-pass, band-pass, and notch are common types.
Envelope Generator
Shapes the amplitude or other aspects over time using ADSR (Attack, Decay, Sustain, Release) parameters.
Unison Mode
Stacks multiple voices on each note played, often detuned, to create a thicker sound.
