Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
A short-term, goal-oriented therapy that takes a hands-on, practical approach to problem-solving by challenging distorted cognitions and changing destructive patterns of behavior.
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)
A goal-directed collaborative approach that is conducted through constructive conversation and focusing on an individual’s vision of solutions, rather than problems that brought them to seek help.
Psychodynamic Therapy
A therapeutic process which helps clients understand and resolve their problems by increasing awareness of their inner world and its influence over relationships both past and present.
Narrative Therapy
An approach that separates people from their problems and encourages them to rely on their own skill sets to minimize the problems that exist in their everyday lives.
Motivational Interviewing (MI)
A client-centered, directive method for enhancing intrinsic motivation to change by exploring and resolving ambivalence.
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)
A program that helps individuals use mindfulness meditation to relieve the symptoms of stress, anxiety, depression, and other health issues.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
An eight-phase treatment in which eye movements (or other bilateral stimulation) are used to process disturbing memories and beliefs. It's particularly effective for treating trauma and PTSD.
Family Systems Therapy
A form of psychotherapy that focuses on solving problems within a family and understanding the patterns of interactions among family members.
Humanistic Therapy
Emphasizes people's capacity to make rational choices and develop to their maximum potential. The approach stresses the importance of growth and self-actualization.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
A form of therapy that combines standard cognitive-behavioral techniques for emotion regulation and reality-testing with concepts of distress tolerance, acceptance, and mindful awareness largely derived from Buddhist meditative practice.
