Barometer
Purpose: Measure atmospheric pressure. Description: A barometer has a sealed chamber with a vacuum or a fluid like mercury that responds to changes in air pressure. As atmospheric pressure changes, the level of mercury rises or falls, translating this movement into a numeric value.
Anemometer
Purpose: Measure wind speed. Description: The most common type of anemometer has three or four cups attached to horizontal arms, which are mounted on a vertical rod. As wind blows, the cups capture the wind and rotate, with the speed of rotation being proportional to wind speed.
Hygrometer
Purpose: Measure the moisture content or the humidity of the air. Description: There are several types of hygrometers such as hair hygrometer where human or animal hair length changes with humidity, and electrical hygrometers where changes in electrical resistance with moisture are measured.
Rain Gauge
Purpose: Measure the amount of liquid precipitation over a set period of time. Description: A simple rain gauge is a cylindrical container that collects rain, with markings on the side that indicate the amount of rainfall usually measured in millimeters or inches.
Thermometer
Purpose: Measure temperature. Description: Thermometers typically contain a liquid like mercury or alcohol that expands and contracts with temperature changes, moving up or down a graduated scale to indicate the current temperature.
