Flashcards

Cold Front
A cold front occurs when a cold air mass pushes into a warmer air mass. This can cause a line of thunderstorms, a quick drop in temperature, and a change in wind direction.
Warm Front
A warm front forms when a warm air mass slides over a cold air mass. It often brings prolonged periods of precipitation and is followed by warmer and more humid conditions.
Stationary Front
A stationary front occurs when neither a cold air mass nor a warm air mass is strong enough to replace the other. This can lead to cloudy skies and periods of light rain or drizzle for several days.
Occluded Front
An occluded front happens when a cold front overtakes a warm front and lifts the warm air off the ground completely, often resulting in complex weather patterns like heavy precipitation followed by clear conditions.
