Axel Jump
A jump in which the skater takes off from the forward outside edge of one skate, makes 1.5 turns in the air, and lands on the back outside edge of the opposite skate.
Death Spiral
A pairs skating move where the male partner pivots in a tight circle on one foot while holding the hand of the female partner, who is almost horizontal to the ice, with her body low and her skating leg extended.
Waltz Jump
A half-revolution jump that is often the first jump learned by beginning skaters, where the skater takes off from a forward outside edge and lands on the back outside edge of the opposite foot.
Biellmann Spin
A difficult spin where the skater pulls the blade of one foot up behind the head while spinning.
Twizzle
A multi-rotational, one-foot turn that moves across the ice; it is used primarily in ice dancing and has become an essential element of the sport.
Camel Spin
A spin move where the skater's non-skating leg extends backwards, with the body held parallel to the ice.
Loop Jump
A jump where the skater takes off from the back outside edge of one foot and lands on the same edge of the same foot after turning in the air.
Bunny Hop
A basic jump where the skater hops into the air from one foot to the other, without any turns in the air and is often used by beginners to learn air-time.
Shoot-the-Duck
A move where the skater glides on one foot in a squatting position while the other leg is extended forward, flat and parallel to the ice.
Salchow Jump
A jump where the skater takes off from the back inside edge of one foot and lands on the back outside edge of the other foot, commonly done in single, double, triple, or quadruple rotations.
Hydroblading
A move where the skater glides with the body as low as possible to the ice, supported by one or both hands and uses deep edges.
Flip Jump
This jump utilizes the toe pick to vault off the ice, taking off from the back inside edge of one foot and landing on the back outside edge of the opposite foot.
Eagle
A gliding maneuver with both legs extended and toes pointing outward in opposite directions, resembling the wingspan of an eagle.
Spread Eagle
A move in which a skater glides on two feet with the legs turned out to 90 degrees from the body, facing opposite directions, and both blades flat on the ice.
Sit Spin
A spin performed in a squatting position with one leg, often the non-dominant, extended outward.
Spiral
A move in which the skater glides on one foot with the non-skating leg extended above hip level.
Mohawk
A turn from one foot to the other in which the skater changes direction and switches from either forward to backward or backward to forward, without changing the lobe.
Flying Sit Spin
A spin that begins with a jump into the air, assuming a sit spin position before landing back on the ice to continue the spin.
Lutz Jump
A toe-pick-assisted jump that takes off from the back outside edge of one foot and lands on the back outside edge of the other foot, with the opposite toe pick helping to vault the skater airborne.
Toe Loop
This jump is initiated by the toe pick of the other foot; the skater takes off and lands on the same back outside edge.
