Freestyle Stroke
The freestyle stroke, also known as front crawl, involves alternating arm movements and a flutter kick while the body rolls side to side.
Backstroke
Swimmers use alternating and opposite arm movements while lying on their back, combined with a flutter kick.
Breaststroke
Swimmers perform a simultaneous arm movement and frog kick. The body moves in a wave-like fashion, coming up to breathe every stroke.
Butterfly Stroke
This stroke consists of simultaneous arm movements in a circular pattern and a unique dolphin kick.
Elementary Backstroke
A simplified stroke where swimmers use synchronous arm and leg actions while floating on their back, often used for beginners.
Sidestroke
This stroke is performed on the side with scissor kick and alternating arm movements, ideal for lifesaving or leisurely swimming.
Trudgen Stroke
Combines a flutter kick with an alternating overarm pull. It's a faster stroke but more tiring than the basic freestyle.
Dog Paddle
A simple stroke where swimmers keep their heads above water and use a simple paddle of their hands and a flutter kick.
Combat Sidestroke
A variation of sidestroke used by the military, combining a mixture of breaststroke and freestyle to save energy.
Snake Swimming
This technique is used in synchronized swimming for traveling underwater, where the body undulates in a snake-like motion.
Back Double Arm Pull
A technique used in backstroke where swimmers perform a double arm pull at the same time for a power boost, less common in competitive swimming.
Eggbeater Kick
A technique common in water polo, where swimmers tread water using a circular motion with their legs to stay afloat and stable.
Flip Turn
A turn used in freestyle and backstroke to reverse direction quickly. The swimmer does a somersault near the wall and pushes off with their feet.
Open Turn
Used in breaststroke and butterfly, the swimmer reaches the wall, grabs it, tucks their knees in, and pushes off for the next lap.
Underwater Dolphin Kick
Swimmers push off the wall and perform a dolphin kick underwater to gain speed. It's often used after starts and turns.
