Subjective Well-Being
Broad category of phenomena that includes people’s emotional responses, domain satisfactions, and global judgments of life satisfaction.
Hedonic Treadmill
The observed tendency of humans to quickly return to a relatively stable level of happiness despite major positive or negative events or life changes.
Flow
The mental state in which a person performing an activity is fully immersed in a feeling of energized focus, full involvement, and enjoyment in the process of the activity.
Eudaimonic Well-Being
Focuses on meaning and self-realization and defines well-being in terms of the degree to which a person is fully functioning.
Authentic Happiness
The theory that happiness is derived from both emotional well-being (the hedonic aspect) and the feeling of purpose or meaning (the eudaimonic aspect).
Gratitude
A powerful emotion that can provide individuals with benefits in both mental and physical health by enhancing positive affect and coping skills.
Resilience
The capacity to recovery quickly from difficulties; it's the ability to bounce back to a previous state of normal functioning, or using the experience as a stepping stone for growth.
Mindfulness
The practice of purposely bringing one's attention to experiences occurring in the present moment without judgment.
Optimism
The hopefulness and confidence about the future or the successful outcome of something, often linked to better health outcomes.
Self-Compassion
Extending compassion to one's self in instances of perceived inadequacy, failure, or general suffering.
Savoring
The capacity to attend to, appreciate, and enhance the positive experiences in one's life.
Character Strengths
Positive traits reflected in thoughts, feelings, and behaviors such as wisdom, courage, humanity, justice, temperance, and transcendence.
Vitality
A psychological state characterized by dynamic physical and mental energy.
Positive Affectivity
The extent to which an individual feels enthusiastic, active, and alert is known as positive affectivity; it is a central dimension of human flourishing.
Hope Theory
Hope is conceptualized as a cognitive set that is based on a reciprocally derived sense of successful: (1) agency (goal-directed determination) and (2) pathways (planning to meet goals).
Subjective Vitality
Self-perceptions of one's own energetic arousal and aliveness; related to energy availability and psychological well-being.
Psychological Wealth
Psychological wealth includes an individual’s attitudes, engagement with life, subjective well-being, health, meaningful work, and wealth of character strengths.
Human Flourishing
A state in which all aspects of a person's life are good. It's the peak of well-being and the opposite of languishing.
