Flashcards
0/10
Stage 2: Yolk Pickup
Infundibulum engulfs the ovum; duration is approximately 15 to 30 minutes.
Stage 1: Ovulation
The release of the ovum (yolk) from the ovary; duration is minutes following the previous egg's lay.
Stage 3: Albumen Secretion
Layers of the egg white are added around the yolk in the magnum; duration is roughly 3 hours.
Stage 4: Chalaza Formation
Twisting motion of egg in the oviduct forms the chalazae; duration occurs during albumen secretion.
Stage 6: Shell Calcification
Deposition of calcium carbonate to form the hard shell in the uterus, taking approximately 19 to 22 hours.
Stage 9: Oviposition
The laying of the egg; duration is minutes.
Stage 5: Formation of the Inner and Outer Shell Membranes
These membranes are laid down in the isthmus; duration is about 1 hour.
Stage 7: Pigmentation
Pigments are deposited on the shell if genetic; duration overlaps with shell calcification.
Stage 8: Cuticle Addition
Cuticle or 'bloom' is added to protect the egg's shell; duration occurs at the end of calcification.
Stage 10: Resting Phase
The period before the formation of the next egg; duration varies but can last from a few hours to a day.
