360-degree Feedback
This method involves collecting performance information from a variety of stakeholders, including supervisors, peers, subordinates, and sometimes clients. Feedback is then consolidated and reviewed with the employee.
Management by Objectives (MBO)
A process where managers and employees agree on a set of goals for the employee. The employee's performance is then assessed based on the achievement of these goals.
Behaviorally Anchored Rating Scales (BARS)
A method that links job performance to specific behavioral examples that are anchored on a scale. Employee performance is evaluated against these scales.
Self-Assessment
A method where employees evaluate their own performance using a given set of criteria. This is often followed by a discussion with the manager to compare perceptions.
Checklist Method
This method involves using a list of statements or questions. The appraiser checks off items based on the employee's performance.
