HTTP
The Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) is used for transferring webpages on the internet from a server to a client.
HTTPS
The Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) is the secure version of HTTP, using encryption to ensure secure data transfer.
FTP
The File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is used for transferring files between a client and a server on a computer network.
SMTP
Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) is used for sending emails from a client to a server or between servers.
POP3
Post Office Protocol version 3 (POP3) is used by email clients to retrieve emails from a server to a local computer.
IMAP
Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) is used to access and manage emails directly on the mail server.
DHCP
Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is used to automatically assign IP addresses to devices on a network.
DNS
Domain Name System (DNS) translates human-readable domain names to machine-readable IP addresses.
TCP
Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) provides a reliable, ordered, and error-checked delivery of a stream of data between applications.
UDP
User Datagram Protocol (UDP) is a lightweight, connectionless protocol used for applications that require speed over reliability.
IP
Internet Protocol (IP) is responsible for addressing and routing packets of data so that they can travel across networks and arrive at the correct destination.
ARP
Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) is used to map an IP address to a machine's physical address on a local area network (LAN).
BGP
Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) is used to exchange routing information between autonomous systems on the internet.
OSPF
Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) is a link-state routing protocol used to find the best path for data packets within a single routing domain.
SNMP
Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is used for collecting and organizing information about managed devices on IP networks and for modifying that information.
SSH
Secure Shell (SSH) is a cryptographic network protocol for operating network services securely over an unsecured network.
SSL/TLS
Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and Transport Layer Security (TLS) are cryptographic protocols designed to provide communications security over a computer network.
RTP
Real-time Transport Protocol (RTP) is used for delivering audio and video over IP networks, particularly during streaming media.
SIP
Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is used to initiate, maintain, modify, and terminate real-time sessions that involve video, voice, messaging, and other communications applications and services between two or more endpoints on IP networks.
RADIUS
Remote Authentication Dial-In User Service (RADIUS) is a networking protocol that provides centralized Authentication, Authorization, and Accounting (AAA) management for users who connect and use a network service.
TFTP
Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP) is a simple, lockstep, file transfer protocol with no authentication, used for transferring small files.
EIGRP
Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP) is a Cisco proprietary routing protocol that uses a composite metric, considering bandwidth and delay by default, to select the best path to a destination network within an autonomous system.
LLDP
Link Layer Discovery Protocol (LLDP) is used by network devices for advertising their identity, capabilities, and neighbors on an IEEE 802 local area network, principally wired Ethernet.
NTP
Network Time Protocol (NTP) is used to synchronize the clocks of computers to some time reference over a network.
L2TP
Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol (L2TP) is used to support virtual private networks (VPNs) or as part of the delivery of services by ISPs. It does not provide any encryption or confidentiality by itself and relies on an encryption protocol that passes within the tunnel to provide privacy.
