Abyssopelagic Zone
Description: A very cold and high-pressure environment that is almost completely dark. Depth range: 4,000 to 6,000 meters.
Neritic Zone
Description: Coastal zone over the continental shelf, with abundant sunlight and marine life, and subject to tides and waves. Depth range: Up to 200 meters.
Bathypelagic Zone
Description: The midnight or dark zone, completely devoid of sunlight and characterized by bioluminescent organisms. Depth range: 1,000 to 4,000 meters.
Benthic Zone
Description: The ocean bottom, which includes the ocean floor and all the organisms living there. Depth range: From the intertidal zone to the deepest trenches.
Oceanic Zone
Description: Begins at the edge of the continental shelf and extends outward into the open ocean, with a comparatively sparse marine life. Depth range: Beyond 200 meters.
Mesopelagic Zone
Description: Also known as the twilight zone, with minimal sunlight and no photosynthesis. Depth range: 200 to 1,000 meters.
Hadopelagic Zone
Description: Found in the deepest oceanic trenches, this zone is the least explored. Depth range: 6,000 meters to the ocean floor.
Intertidal Zone
Description: The area between the high tide and low tide marks, which is underwater at high tide and exposed at low tide. Depth range: Varies with tides.
Epipelagic Zone
Description: The surface layer of the ocean where sunlight penetrates, allowing for photosynthesis. Depth range: 0 to 200 meters.
Pelagic Zone
Description: Open ocean waters, comprising both the neritic and oceanic zones. Depth range: From the surface down to the deep sea.
