Flashcards
0/3
This type of cognitive load is concerned with the effort being used in the working memory to process and understand the information that is intrinsic to the material being learned. It cannot be altered by instructional design.
Intrinsic Cognitive Load
This type of cognitive load refers to the extra and often unnecessary information that distracts or overwhelms the learner's working memory. It is not essential to learning the material at hand and can be managed or reduced by instructional design.
Extraneous Cognitive Load
This type of cognitive load refers to the work put into creating a permanent store of knowledge, or the 'learning' part of the process. It involves processes such as schema creation and automation.
